"This here deluxe package from Reverend Moon has made me a convert. To what religion or god, who knows? There are so many to choose from and besides, they all look alike. But Reverend Moon offer something different. Not quite the Cave Singers or Nick Cave, but certainly the sound of the cavernous. Coyote Gospels is full of religious allusions from the book of Big George and Sally. Who plays the role of the soft haired Philistine victim is anyone’s guest. I’m not sure I want to stick around to find out but yet the (good?) word abides. So I eat the possum and beans, and am transformed. I have visions of Wooden Wand and fall into a fever, saved by Exaybachay. In the end I see that many talk loud but say nothing….but Reverend Moon may have more than meets the eye. Thankfully he sends me off with a hymnal and a button to wear upon my lapel as I shake the babies and kiss the girls. I am saved and now my mission is conversion. "On listening to this album from Reverend Moon you can't help but get the feeling that here we have a lonely soul tramping the dirt roads of the Deep South casting consternations on the inhabitants whilst preaching hellfire and damnation. A waxing moon is all you need as the coyote howls somewhere in dark, tonight is going to be long and you better hope that Jesus is by your side ... Basically a road trip of an album, the dirty twang of the guitar plays backdrop to the stories of redemption and fear that Moon delivers. Like some bastardised version of Tom Waits chewing Nick Cave up for breakfast and then burping it out in a good old Woody Guthrie style, the idea is more exciting than the music to begin with. As the opening songs pass you by like nothing more than a coyote casting a guilty stare at you, suddenly a wind change comes over and as Moon is pleading for Satan to hear his song things start to slip into place and a gloom descends as you sink into his despondency. It's completely terrific and everything starts to make sense. The second half of this album is simply phenomenal. From the dirty blues of 'Satan, Hear My Song' through 'Drinking With Jesus' and beyond the music gets more and more fevered in it's interpretation of a man losing his mind in a world gone wrong. It's despair of the kind that can only be find and grinds deep down into some hitherto unknown rock and roll spirit in it's quest. Sound exciting? Listen and find yourself in a daze .... Like some gothic piece of literature, the Moon's lyrics will twist there way into your mind and play about with your conception of reality whilst the music drones along in the background. A surprising and disturbing treat."

"Reverend Moon (Not to be confused with Sun Myung Moon) is the swampy satanic Bob Dylan we didn’t know we had been waiting for. The sound is thick with the blues and at the same time catchy with beautiful guitar play. The lyrics are laugh out loud witty and extremely clever. I especially like the song called God Culture, which brings up a very modern topic and twists it into something else, you can listen to it below.
