It was Easter Monday and the tomb was occupied Jesus was laying thereon his side I said, “Get up! It’s your resurrection day.” He said, “Not if I have anything to say You’ll find yourself a saviour just two doors down Take these wounds and give her this crown.” I said, “Hey Jesus don’t be this way We bought everything you had to say About the Kingdom and how you’d get us in By kissing it better and assuaging our sins.” He said with a curious look in his eyes, “I’d love to wear your guilt but it don’t come in my size.” I said, “What’cha gonna do Jesus? Where you gonna go?” He shrugged and said, “When I get there I’ll know Gonna walk amongst the rich and the poor Sleep with the nuns and pray to the whores Gonna see the city and the wild country side.” Then he stood at the crossroads and thumbed for a ride He said, “There’s a highway a-heading Anywhere you wanna go There’s a jet plane a-leaving if the train moves too slow With all these highways, planes, trains and cars Why is it that you’re still at where you are?” I said, “I’ve done my travelling, I don’t wanna do no more Just wanna lay down along the deep green shore.”

"Coyote Gospels is baptism in dusty oak, the songs and prayers of the olde overlords of darkness. The acoustic guitar rings like a broken down schoolbus travelling across a mountain range of terror, while handclaps and slide guitar dot the landscape as torn up road signs. People were once here, but what’s left is a hell of mental desolation. The songs put a pool cue in one hand and a broken bottle in the other. Be careful partner, ‘cause there ain’t no hospital here – you are all alone." ~ Weird Canada

"This here deluxe package from Reverend Moon has made me a convert. To what religion or god, who knows? There are so many to choose from and besides, they all look alike. But Reverend Moon offer something different. Not quite the Cave Singers or Nick Cave, but certainly the sound of the cavernous. Coyote Gospels is full of religious allusions from the book of Big George and Sally. Who plays the role of the soft haired Philistine victim is anyone’s guest. I’m not sure I want to stick around to find out but yet the (good?) word abides. So I eat the possum and beans, and am transformed. I have visions of Wooden Wand and fall into a fever, saved by Exaybachay. In the end I see that many talk loud but say nothing….but Reverend Moon may have more than meets the eye. Thankfully he sends me off with a hymnal and a button to wear upon my lapel as I shake the babies and kiss the girls. I am saved and now my mission is conversion. First step: political office!" ~ Tiny Mix Tapes / Cerberus

"On listening to this album from Reverend Moon you can't help but get the feeling that here we have a lonely soul tramping the dirt roads of the Deep South casting consternations on the inhabitants whilst preaching hellfire and damnation. A waxing moon is all you need as the coyote howls somewhere in dark, tonight is going to be long and you better hope that Jesus is by your side ... Basically a road trip of an album, the dirty twang of the guitar plays backdrop to the stories of redemption and fear that Moon delivers. Like some bastardised version of Tom Waits chewing Nick Cave up for breakfast and then burping it out in a good old Woody Guthrie style, the idea is more exciting than the music to begin with. As the opening songs pass you by like nothing more than a coyote casting a guilty stare at you, suddenly a wind change comes over and as Moon is pleading for Satan to hear his song things start to slip into place and a gloom descends as you sink into his despondency. It's completely terrific and everything starts to make sense. The second half of this album is simply phenomenal. From the dirty blues of 'Satan, Hear My Song' through 'Drinking With Jesus' and beyond the music gets more and more fevered in it's interpretation of a man losing his mind in a world gone wrong. It's despair of the kind that can only be find and grinds deep down into some hitherto unknown rock and roll spirit in it's quest. Sound exciting? Listen and find yourself in a daze .... Like some gothic piece of literature, the Moon's lyrics will twist there way into your mind and play about with your conception of reality whilst the music drones along in the background. A surprising and disturbing treat."

"Reverend Moon has released one of the most immediate and essential albums of this year... Some of the numbers may put you in mind of Dylan; that is no bad thing—there is no intention to mimic or overthrow the master. What 'Coyote Gospels' does is to instill some of Dylan’s particular moments— the anger and apocalypse of his early work; his Christianity works towards the ’80s; some of his latter-day wonder—around songs that cover a spectrum of subjects: religious truths, Satan and God; strange and weird dreams; dangerous street scenes etc. ....'Drinking With Jesus' is an insanely gripping and memorable story; something destined for the big screen—a song you will be quoting endlessly. Looking at murderous avenues and disreputable evil, it grips you and haunts your soul- how many other tracks can do that? .... no other act has presented 13 songs that sounds and play like this .... I sure as hell hope that another album is coming. Like his countryman legends Neil Young and Leonard Cohen; Reverend Moon mixes an evocative and stirring voice with intelligent and witty songs that explore love, life and religion. The early numbers ... are quirky and stunningly strange; unlike anything I have heard, they are filled with wonderful images. When proceedings look at death, religion and questioning; the album becomes profound and investigative .... The master of sonic innovation and intrigue, there is no a flat moment or insincere thought on 'Coyote Gospels' — it is as dangerous, imperious and wonderful as the title itself."

"Reverend Moon (Not to be confused with Sun Myung Moon) is the swampy satanic Bob Dylan we didn’t know we had been waiting for. The sound is thick with the blues and at the same time catchy with beautiful guitar play. The lyrics are laugh out loud witty and extremely clever. I especially like the song called God Culture, which brings up a very modern topic and twists it into something else, you can listen to it below. Most of the songs are catchy as hell and they will make you Hail Satan in a melodic way á la Ghost." ~ Post My Rock

"Reverend Moon created a dense and dark folk album with Coyote Gospels. I can't stop listening to this hobo rock masterpiece."
