lyrics

It was Easter Monday and the tomb was occupied
Jesus was laying thereon his side
I said, “Get up! It’s your resurrection day.”

He said, “Not if I have anything to say
You’ll find yourself a saviour just two doors down
Take these wounds and give her this crown.”

I said, “Hey Jesus don’t be this way
We bought everything you had to say
About the Kingdom and how you’d get us in
By kissing it better and assuaging our sins.”

He said with a curious look in his eyes,
“I’d love to wear your guilt but it don’t come in my size.”

I said, “What’cha gonna do Jesus?
Where you gonna go?”

He shrugged and said, “When I get there I’ll know
Gonna walk amongst the rich and the poor
Sleep with the nuns and pray to the whores
Gonna see the city and the wild country side.”

Then he stood at the crossroads and thumbed for a ride

He said, “There’s a highway a-heading
Anywhere you wanna go
There’s a jet plane a-leaving if the train moves too slow
With all these highways, planes, trains and cars
Why is it that you’re still at where you are?”

I said, “I’ve done my travelling,
I don’t wanna do no more
Just wanna lay down
along the deep green shore.”
